“Unpredictable Rama II” มองไปยังสถานการณ์ปัจจุบันของการก่อสร้างที่ดูเหมือนจะไม่มีวันจบสิ้นของถนนพระรามสองที่สร้างต่อเนื่องยาวนานมากกว่า 50 ปี ประชาชนที่ต้องใช้ถนนเส้นนี้ในการเดินทาง หรืออาศัยอยู่ตามแนวการก่อสร้าง ล้วนได้รับผลกระทบกันถ้วนหน้า ไม่ว่าจะเรื่องมลภาวะ การจราจร รวมไปถึงชีวิตที่แขวนไว้บนเส้นด้าย ไม่รู้ว่าสิ่งก่อสร้างขนาดยักษ์จะหล่นลงมาทับร่างเมื่อใด ประชาชนต้องก้มหน้ายอมรับชะตากรรมที่ดำเนินไปอย่างคาดเดากันไม่ได้ว่าเมื่อไรจะใช้ชีวิตกันอย่างสงบสุข
งานประกอบด้วยสองชุดที่ใช้ภาพถ่ายจากกล้องมือถือที่เป็นเครื่องมือสามัญที่ประชาชนใช้ในการบันทึกสิ่งที่เห็นในชีวิตประจำวัน และภาพนิ่งจากกล้องหน้ารถที่ได้มาจากข่าวในทีวี ป้อนเข้าระบบให้นิยามความหมายออกมา 4 ข้อความเพื่อแสดงให้เห็นว่าปัญญาประดิษฐ์สามารถเข้าใจสิ่งที่เห็นว่าอย่างไร จากนั้นให้ AI ประมวลผลจากภาพถ่ายต้นแบบ และข้อความจำเพาะต่างๆรวมถึงนิยามที่ AI ส่งออกมาก่อนหน้านั้นป้อนเข้าไปในระบบ จนได้ภาพออกมาที่ผลลัพธ์มีความคลุมเครือและผิดเพี้ยน สะท้อนไปยังสถานการณ์ที่เราไม่อาจล่วงรู้อนาคตที่แน่นอนได้
งานชุดแรกนำภาพถ่ายของเสาทางด่วนที่กำลังก่อสร้างมาเป็นข้อมูลต้นทาง ให้ AI บวกกับข้อความจำเพาะ เช่นคำว่า Done (เสร็จ) ป้อนให้กับ AI ได้คาดเดาสิ่งที่จะเกิดขึ้นกับต้นเสาเหล่านี้ แม้ผลลัพธ์ต่างๆถูกสร้างออกมาอย่างแปลกประหลาด วิจิตรพิศดาร ดูสับสนงุนงงผสมกับความล้ำยุค หากแต่ดูไม่ใกล้เคียงกับคำว่า "เสร็จ" เท่าใดนัก งานชุดที่สองใช้ภาพฟุตเทจของอุบัติเหตุสิ่งก่อสร้างขนาดใหญ่หล่นลงมาบนถนนพระรามสองเกือบทับรถที่วิ่งอยู่ (มีคนงานตายหนึ่งคนตามข่าว) ป้อนให้กับ AI เพื่อแปลข้อมูลจากภาพเป็นข้อความ และนำข้อความเหล่านั้นป้อนกลับเข้าไปอีกครั้งเพื่อสร้างออกมาเป็นภาพ ผลลัพธ์ที่ได้เป็นภาพที่สุดแสนจะแฟนตาซี แต่หากลองพิจารณาให้ดีแล้ว AI ดูจะเข้าใจบริบทของภาพจริงที่สุดแสนสยองขวัญอยู่บ้าง เช่น บางภาพแสดงถึงอสุรกายที่ผุดออกมาดักทำลายรถบนถนน หรือความฉิบหายพังพินาศของทางด่วนที่จะดูจะใกล้เคียงกับเหตุการณ์จริง อย่างไรก็ดี AI ที่ดูจะเป็นสิ่งที่ฉลาดมากกว่าคน กลับตกอยู่ในสภาวะเดียวกันกับ “มนุษย์พระรามสอง” ที่ไม่อาจคาดการณ์สิ่งที่จะเกิดขึ้นบนถนนสายนี้ได้เลย
"Rama II" focuses on the never-ending construction of Rama II Road, which has been ongoing for more than 50 years. People who use this road daily or live nearby have all been affected—dealing with pollution, heavy traffic, and the constant fear that a large structure could collapse at any moment. They have no choice but to accept this uncertain situation, never knowing when life on this road will return to normal.
The project includes two series of images. The first comes from mobile phone cameras, which people use to capture everyday life, and the second from dashcam footage shown on TV news. These images were processed by AI, which first generated four short descriptions of what it "saw." Then, the AI used these descriptions, along with the original photos and other keywords, to create new images. The results were unclear and distorted, showing the unpredictability of the future.
The first series uses photos of unfinished expressway pillars. The AI was given a keyword like "Done", asking it to imagine how the structures would look when completed. However, the results were strange and futuristic, but they did not look "Done" at all.
The second series uses footage of a construction accident on Rama II Road, where a large structure collapsed onto the road, nearly crushing moving cars (one worker was reported dead). The AI was first asked to turn the images into text, and then that text was used to generate new images. The final pictures looked like scenes from a fantasy world, but if we look closely, the AI seemed to understand the real danger of the situation. Some images showed monstrous figures blocking the road, while others depicted highways breaking apart—similar to what actually happened. Even though AI is often seen as highly intelligent, in this case, it found itself in the same position as the "Rama II human": unable to predict what will happen next on this uncertain road.
